Five burned in Bangkok workers’ camp gas cylinder attack
A brawl broke out inside a workers' camp in the Punnawithi area of Bangkok last night, during which a gas cylinder was ignited and used to spray fire at opponents. The attacker accidentally tripped, causing the fire to spread, injuring five Burmese labourers. Police are currently investigating the incident.
The violent dispute occurred inside Soi Punnawithi 12, Phra Khanong District. Fuel was poured and a gas cylinder valve was opened to spray fire at the opposing party.
All of the injured, two women and three men, are Myanmar nationals. They went to seek help from Ruamkatanyu Foundation rescue volunteers stationed near the Bang Na District Office, as they had sustained burns across their bodies. The two women suffered severe injuries.
A rescue volunteer revealed that, at around 9pm, the five injured individuals arrived in a vehicle. It was learned that the incident stemmed from a dispute. One of the injured women, who had been holding the ignited gas cylinder, had run towards the others and tripped, causing the fire to spread and to burn her as well as the four other individuals.
As for the cause of the conflict, officials are waiting for the conditions of those injured to improve before conducting detailed questioning.
Following the incident, investigators from the Phra Khanong Police Station cordoned off and inspected the scene. News teams on the ground found that the site of the incident is a detached housing construction project, with unauthorised personnel strictly prohibited from entering.
Rescue volunteers transported the injured to hospital for treatment. The three men were taken to Sirindhorn Hospital, while the two women were taken to King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital.
