Somkid Chuekong, Deputy Secretary-General to the Prime Minister, filed the complaint on behalf of the government yesterday.
He stated that he believes Hun Sen has benefited from the leak of the audio clip on social media and that the release was politically motivated. He also asserted that Thai law could potentially be applied against Hun Sen.
Meanwhile, CIB Commissioner Pol Lt Gen Trairong Phiwpan explained that Thai law can be enforced against both Thai nationals and foreigners, whether residing in Thailand or abroad, if the alleged offense threatens national security. He cited the example of overseas call center scams as precedent.
After receiving the complaint, Trairong said the CIB will attempt to determine the source of the leak. If it is found to be located abroad, the bureau will consult with the Office of the Attorney General and coordinate with the Cambodian Embassy to serve official documents to the suspect.
At this stage, Trairong said he does not wish to speculate on whether Hun Sen could be brought to Thailand to face legal proceedings.
