The Energy Ministry will try to maintain the pump price of diesel at not more than 33 baht/litre, a cap which was due to end on October 30 until the end of the year.
Energy Minister Pirapan Salirathavibhaga said today that there is a possibility that the current cap could be extended, adding that there is, however, the ongoing war in the Middle East, which may push the global price of oil higher and this needs to be monitored closely.
Nonetheless, he offered his assurance that the government will try to keep impacts on consumers to an absolute minimum.
The minister also said that keeping electricity and fuel prices low will help boost the economy.
Meanwhile, Energy Permanent Secretary Prasert Sinsukprasert said that the war in the Middle East has not, so far, had serious impacts on Thailand, because the country’s current oil reserves are sufficient to last 26 days, although, theoretically, there should be reserves for up to 70 days.
