Warning of river overflows in and around Bangkok from today until Saturday

Riverside communities in Bangkok, Pathum Thani, Nonthaburi, Nakhon Pathom, Samut Sakhon, Samut Songkhram and Samut Prakan provinces are advised to prepare for the possibility of the Chao Phraya River and connected canals overflowing between today and Saturday due to spring tides.

Teerapat Kachamat, director general of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM), said today that communities in riparian zones and those located outside the floodwall are most at risk from overflows between 5pm until 8pm as the tide rises.

The most vulnerable areas are Muang and Sam Khok districts in Pathum Thani, Muang, Pak Kret and Bang Kruai districts in Nonthaburi, Bang Len, Nakhon Chai Si and Sam Phran districts in Nakhon Pathom, all districts in Samut Sakhon and Samut Songkhram, Muang, Phra Samut Chedi, Phra Pradaeng and Bang Bo districts in Samut Prakan.

He said that the department has already briefed authorities concerned in the seven provinces, including Bangkok, to alert people and businesses in vulnerable areas and to monitor the check situation regularly via the ‘THAI DISASTER ALERT’ application or the 1784 hotline around the clock.
