Several foreign embassies in Thailand have expressed their deepest condolences following the devastating fire in a Ladprao pub called ‘Na Ladprao’, located near Ladprao 1 Road in Bangkok’s Chatuchak district, while international media outlets have raised pointed questions regarding Thailand's safety standards and regulatory enforcement.

According to Chatuchak District Office, as of today at 9.00am, the death toll of the incident had risen to 30, with 76 injured. Among the 76 injured survivors, 25 are in a critical condition, 15 have serious injuries and 36 suffered less severe harm.

The UK’s BBC reported on the incident yesterday, with the headline "Bangkok bar blaze." The broadcaster noted that this was not Thailand's first such tragedy, drawing parallels to a 2022 bar fire that claimed 22 lives and the January 1, 2009 nightclub fire in Bangkok that killed 66.

The report also recalled a 2024 electrical short-circuit fire at the Chatuchak weekend market, which resulted in the deaths of over 1,000 animals.

According to the BBC, despite pledges by Thai authorities to upgrade fire and electrical safety standards following past disasters, the enforcement of these regulations has frequently remained lax.

Meanwhile, Qatar-based broadcaster Al Jazeera reported that the tragedy marks Thailand's deadliest fire incident since the infamous Santika Club inferno during New Year's Eve celebrations in 2009.

Singapore's Channel NewsAsia (CNA) focused on the structural limitations hindering evacuation. The network interviewed a survivor, who recounted that most patrons naturally rushed towards the main entrance, but that the exit was “not wide enough” to accommodate the crowd, creating a bottleneck as desperate people scrambled to escape.

In the wake of the tragedy, a chorus of foreign diplomatic missions in Thailand extended their sympathies. The Australian Embassy expressed profound sadness over the Ladprao fire, offering thoughts to the families of the victims, the injured and all first responders on the scene.

The Embassy of Canada in Thailand also offered its condolences for the loss of life, sending wishes for strength to the injured, their families and all affected individuals, while commending the ongoing efforts of the emergency services.

The Chinese Embassy joined in mourning the victims, expressing its sympathies to those affected. Beijing's mission added that it stands ready to provide any necessary assistance to the wounded, wishing them a speedy recovery.

Similarly, the Embassy of the Republic of Korea extended its deepest condolences over the fatal blaze, offering heartfelt sympathies to the families of the deceased and everyone grieving from the loss.

The Embassy of Ireland expressed immense sadness over the incident, conveying its profound condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims, alongside wishes for a full and rapid recovery for the injured.

The Embassy of Japan posted a message from HE OTAKA Masato, Japan's ambassador to Thailand, who extended his deepest condolences to the victims and the bereaved families. The ambassador expressed his deep concern for the injured, wishing them a quick recovery and a return to good health.
