แรงบันดาลใจที่ทำให้ผมเลือกเรียนในภาควิชาวิศวกรรมชีวการแพทย์มาจากความชอบในวิชาวิทยาศาสตร์ ประกอบกับสภาพปัจจุบันที่เทคโนโลยีเข้ามีบทบาทในชีวิตของเรามากขึ้น นอกจากนี้สถานการณ์ระบาดโควิด-19 ยิ่งตอกย้ำถึงความสำคัญของนวัตกรรมทางการแพทย์ที่จะพัฒนาแนวทางการรักษาสุขภาพ พัฒนาคุณภาพชีวิตให้กับคนในสังคม ทำให้ผมเห็นถึงโอกาสและความก้าวหน้าทางอาชีพ เลยทำให้ผมตัดสินใจที่จะลองเข้าคัดเลือกในรอบรับตรงโดยคณะวิศวกรรมศาสตร์ และทำให้ผมมีโอกาสได้มาเล่าประสบการณ์นี้ครับ สำหรับสิ่งที่ผมประทับใจตั้งแต่เข้ามาศึกษาต่อ คือ บรรยากาศการเรียนที่สื่อสารกันด้วยภาษาอังกฤษ ปกติแล้วเราจะไม่ค่อยมีโอกาสได้ใช้ภาษา แต่ระยะเวลาตลอด 4 ปีที่อยู่ผมคิดว่าจะช่วยพัฒนาทักษะทางด้านภาษาของผมให้ดียิ่งขึ้นครับ อย่างที่สอง คือ ความหลากหลายของห้องปฎิบัติการที่น่าสนใจและสุดท้ายที่ผมคิดว่าสำคัญมากๆ ในยุคการเรียนออนไลน์ สังคมภายในภาควิชาชีวการแพทย์ทั้งอาจารย์ รุ่นพี่ เพื่อนๆ ที่พร้อมจะสนับสนุนเรา เป็นแรงผลักดันให้เราในหลายๆ ด้านทั้งการเรียนและกิจกรรม ในอนาคตผมมีเป้าหมายที่จะสั่งสมประสบการณ์ ทักษะต่างๆ ค้นหาตัวเองระหว่างที่ศึกษา ณ มหาวิทยาลัยมหิดล นำไปสู่การประกอบอาชีพไม่ว่าจะเป็นวิศวกรชีวการแพทย์ หรือผู้ประกอบการที่จะสร้างสรรค์นวัตกรรมทางการแพทย์ต่อไปครับ

“ในอนาคตผมอยากที่จะพัฒนาเครื่องมือทางการแพทย์ให้มีความสะดวกและสามารถเข้าถึงได้โดยทุกคน ทำให้ทุกๆ คนได้รับโอกาสในการรักษากันอย่างเท่าเทียม”

ในตอนแรก ผมรู้แค่ว่าผมอยากเข้าคณะวิศวกรรมศาสตร์ แต่ยังไม่มั่นใจว่าอยากเข้าเรียนในสาขาอะไร จนมีวันหนึ่งที่โรงเรียนได้ พามาที่มหาวิทยาลัยมหิดลในงาน Open House ซึ่งนั่นเป็นครั้งแรกที่ทำให้ผมได้รู้จักกับสาขาวิศวกรรมชีวการแพทย์ ซึ่งผมได้รับข้อมูลที่รุ่นพี่ที่งานมามากจนเกิดความสนใจในการเข้าเรียนในสาขานี้ และเมื่อหาข้อมูลเพิ่มเติม วิศวกรรมชีวการแพทย์ของนั้นมี ทั้งทุนการศึกษา การเรียนต่อ ผลงานวิจัย และทางมหาวิทยาลัยมหิดลยังมีความโดดเด่นทางด้านการแพทย์อยู่ด้วย ทำให้ผมเริ่มตั้งเป้าหมายในการเข้าศึกษา ซึ่งในอนาคตผมอยากที่จะพัฒนาเครื่องมือทางการแพทย์ให้มีความสะดวกและสามารถเข้าถึงได้โดยทุกคน ทำให้ทุกๆ คนได้รับโอกาสในการรักษากันอย่างเท่าเทียม แต่ผมเชื่อว่า เมื่อได้ศึกษาต่อไปในสาขานี้ ทางเลือกในชีวิตการทำงานของผมจะต้องหลากหลายขึ้นมากกว่าที่ผมคิดไว้อย่างแน่นอน การได้เข้ามาเรียนในทำให้ผมรู้สึกได้ถึงความใกล้ชิดของบุคลากร ความสนิทสนมของรุ่นพี่รุ่นน้องที่มีความช่วยเหลือเกื้อกูลกันในทุกๆ ด้าน ทำให้เกิดบรรยากาศในการเรียนที่เป็นมิตร และในเรื่องของกิจกรรมนั้นไม่ได้แผ่วเบาไปกว่าปีอื่นๆ เลยถึงแม้ว่าจะไม่สามารถไปที่มหาลัยและร่วมกิจกรรมแบบ on site ได้ก็ตาม ซึ่งผมคิดว่าการตัดสินใจเข้าศึกษาในสาขาวิศวกรรมชีวการแพทย์นั้นเป็นการตัดสินใจที่ถูกต้อง และผมมีความสุขที่ได้ตัดสินใจมาเป็นส่วนหนึ่งของครอบครัว BME

“เหตุผลที่เลือกเรียนวิศวกรรมชีวการแพทย์ของมหิดลเพราะว่ามหาวิทยาลัยมหิดลมีชื่อเสียงทางด้านการแพทย์และการวิจัยมายาวนาน มีกิจกรรมมากมายให้เลือกเข้าร่วม อีกทั้งยังมีห้องปฏิบัติการที่หลากหลาย สามารถเข้าเรียนรู้ได้ตามความสนใจของตัวเอง”

เดิมทีผมมีความสนใจในด้านการแพทย์และการรักษา ครอบครัวผมเองก็แนะนำให้เป็นแพทย์ ซึ่งในตอนแรกผมก็ไม่ได้ติดขัดอะไร แต่เมื่อเวลาผ่านไป ผมได้เห็นอะไรหลายๆอย่างมากขึ้น โดยเฉพาะเมื่อตอนที่ได้มีโอกาสไปเข้าค่ายอยากเป็นหมอ และไปดูงานที่โรงพยาบาล ทำให้ผมคิดว่า “ถ้าไม่ต้องเป็นหมอ จะมีวิธีอื่นที่สามารถช่วยเหลือคนไข้ได้หรือไม่” เพราะถ้าทุ่มกำลังคนไปที่แพทย์อย่างเดียว หน้าที่ที่สำคัญอื่นๆ อาจจะขาดแคลนบุคลากรได้

วันหนึ่ง ขณะที่ผมกำลังเลื่อนหน้า Facebook ตามปกติ ผมได้ไปพบโพสต์ของทางคณะวิศวกรรมศาสตร์ เกี่ยวกับการเปิดรับสมัครนักศึกษาใหม่ ปี 1 ทำให้ผมเริ่มค้นคว้าเพิ่มเติมเกี่ยวกับวิศวกรรมชีวการแพทย์ว่าคืออะไร เมื่อได้รู้ว่าเป็นการคิดค้นเทคโนโลยีเพื่อมาสนองความต้องการทางการแพทย์ ผมจึงเกิดความสนใจขึ้น แต่โชคร้ายที่ตอนนั้น TCAS รอบ 1 ปิดไปแล้ว ทำให้ผมต้องเตรียมตัวในการสอบเข้ารอบ 3 แทน และได้ติดเข้ามาเป็น 1 ใน 3 คนจากรอบ Admission 2 ในที่สุด เหตุผลที่เลือกเรียนวิศวกรรมชีวการแพทย์ของมหิดลเพราะว่ามหาวิทยาลัยมหิดลมีชื่อเสียงทางด้านการแพทย์และการวิจัยมายาวนาน

สำหรับเป้าหมายในอนาคต ผมอยากที่จะเรียนรู้วิชาต่างๆ ให้ได้อย่างเต็มที่ แล้วนำความรู้นั้นไปสร้างสรรค์เทคโนโลยีทางการรักษาใหม่ๆ เพื่อพัฒนาการแพทย์ของไทยให้ดียิ่งขึ้นไปอีกขั้น

บรรยากาศในการเรียนและกิจกรรม ถึงแม้ส่วนตัวผมจะอธิบายไม่ได้เนื่องจากสถานการณ์การแพร่ระบาดของโรคโควิด-19 แต่จากที่ได้ยินมา มีกิจกรรมมากมายให้เลือกเข้าร่วม ส่วนเรื่องการเรียน มีห้องปฏิบัติการที่หลากหลาย สามารถเข้าเรียนรู้ได้ตามความสนใจของตัวเอง

สิ่งที่ประทับใจเกี่ยวกับก็คืออาจารย์ รุ่นพี่ และเพื่อนๆที่คอยสนับสนุนในทุกๆเรื่อง ตั้งแต่เรื่องงาน จนไปถึงกิจกรรมต่างๆ ไม่เสียดายที่เลือกเรียนจริงๆ ครับ

“I think that I do not need to be a doctor to help people, but I can develop the medical things to help people who suffer from them”

"My name is Nakulkarn Pollom and I graduated from Mahidol International Demonstration School where my interest in Biomedical Engineering began. Since my high school, MUIDS, has a university fair day where students can walk around and look at the faculties they aspire to. I discovered a booth that is biomedical engineering because the medical model they provided that day was very attractive to me. At first, I admitted that I wanted to be a doctor and not an engineer because I wanted to help people from diseases and pain. But after that day, I changed my mind because I think that I do not need to be a doctor to help people, but I can develop the medical things to help people who suffer from them. So, I set a new goal for myself, which is to become a biomedical engineer, and the more time I spent reading the articles about biomedicine, the more interesting it became for me. My goal is to be the one who introduces high tech and advanced medical devices in Thailand to lower the cost of treatment for someone who cannot afford it. During the pandemic COVID -19, many new advanced technologies emerged in the field of medical health, which caused the number of people interested in this field to increase more and more. Therefore, I think that in the future, there will be more people working in this field in Thailand and a higher rate of acquired work. Also, Mahidol University has a good reputation in the science department and in the qualification of education, so that's my goal."

When I was a high school student at Suankularb Wittayalai School, I’ve always had a dream of studying in the field of engineering. Until October of 2019, I had a chance to visit the open-house event at the faculty of engineering, Mahidol University. And on that day, I was introduced to Biomedical engineering. When I first heard about Biomed, my first thought was that this is the choice that will fulfil my dream. The main reason I found biomedical engineering very interesting is that it is an integration of knowledge from several fields that I had never seen from other branches of engineering. And for me, who is interested in biology, engineering, and other scientific branches, I felt that Biomed is the right mix. Since then, Biomed has always been my only interest. Speaking of learning, even though on-site classes are not arrangeable just yet and there are still many inconveniences, I still enjoy my time studying in the current situation. In the future, I hope that I will work in the medical field as a Biomedical engineer to invent new innovations and to help the people who are in need. The reason I chose to apply for Biomed at Mahidol University is that Mahidol has one of the best facilities among other universities in Thailand. Whether they are laboratories, workspaces, transportations, or a good environment around the campus, Mahidol has them all. Since the day I entered this programme, I always feel like there is a special bond between me, my friends, the seniors, and the faculty members as everyone seems very helpful to me since day one. And I hope that all these positivities will help motivate me to study more and work harder as a year-one Biomedical engineering student.

Greetings to everybody. My name is Rojana Jiwattayakul. I graduated from Mahidol University International Demonstration.

It is inevitable to say that globalization is done successfully with the assistance of various technologies to reach the optimum results. However, I came up with the idea of positioning myself into one of the important parts of technology that could provide the demand for medical care nowadays. My interest in biomedical engineering has begun since the first impression towards the medical technology and robots used in the laboratory during my internship and prosthetics used by Paralympic athletes. The fact that you could bring joy and happiness back to life after several pain and trauma is immensely heart touching and wholesome. Indeed, robotic engineering has always been my interest since my youth. Within the addition of enthusiasm of the healthcare system and biology, these combinations of my curiosity and sympathy in helping people convey me to the determination of becoming successful in this major at Mahidol University.

Working as a biomedical engineer can navigate you to several pathways of notable accomplishments. In addition, Biomedical technology are yet considered to be “new” in Thailand as we still import majority of medical devices from other developed countries. However, I would implement this area of insufficient as an advantage to improve and introduce this “new” technology more in business area to make Thailand becomes the reliable sources for manufacturing and distributing of medical technology among the world.

I chose to be a part of Mahidol university because of the pleasant environments of both people and campus. All the teachers, seniors, staff, and friends are nice and supportive even though we have not seen each other in a person yet. All in all, a solid foundation provided by the faculty, connection establishment into the future world, and potential perspectives to enhance conveniences for humanity in medical care are what I expect to complete in these 4 years.
