More than 2,500 tourists streamed into the popular mountainous retreat to sample the cool weather and to feel the embrace of the pristine natural environment.
Phuvanai Moonwaeng, the park’s chief, said that at this time of year, the national park is an ideal destination for sight-seeing, camping, watching the sun rise and set, or a leisurely walk through nature, when temperatures average 13°C.
On December 1st, the park reopened three waterfalls to tourists, after about a year of closure following in an incident when wild elephants attacked some visitors.
Phuvanai said that park officials have been posted along the route from the foot of the mountain to the top, where tourists are allowed to camp out.
The park is open daily from 8.30am to 2pm for day visitors who want to trek to the top of the mountain.
He said that tourists are asked not to dispose of their garbage in the park but to take it back to the mountain base, where the trash is properly disposed of.
