Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt formally began his second term in the office today by unveiling the 261 urgent projects he intends to implement during the first 100 days, including addressing air pollution, corruption, flood, garbage disposal, traffic management, the greening of Bangkok and livelihood improvements for city dwellers.

Chadchart, who won his second landslide in the June 28 gubernatorial election, by bagging more than 1.5 million votes, received a letter of certification this morning from the Election Commission, confirming his re-election. He also named his four deputy governors, his advisory chairman and team of advisors, as well as his secretary and assistant secretaries.

His four deputies are Dr. Wisanu Subsompon, Dr. Tavida Kamolvej, Sanon Wangsrangboon and Pornphrom Vikitsreth.

He told the media that his agenda for the first 100 days cover all aspects related to the quality of life in Bangkok. For instance, transparency and access to information. He said he will issue an order to improve public access to information regarding dust and odours from garbage dumps and will further develop the ‘Traffy Fondue’ platform, so the public can stay abreast of progress in corruption investigations.

Regarding health, he said the administration will expand the capacity of the city’s healthcare centres to provide services to up to 1.3 million healthcare ‘gold card’ holders and to reduce the waiting times to see doctors to not more than an hour.

On the environment, he said the city will plant at least 100,000 trees, expand the air pollution free zones, increase smart traffic light systems at 10 intersections and solve the flood problem in 100 notoriously vulnerable areas.

On corruption, the governor said he will do his best to end the practice of unfair promotions being bought through bribery.

Chadchart said he is ready to work with all the city councilors from different parties for the benefit of the city’s people.
