Tenth Thai soldier injured by landmine shortly before ceasefire
A Thai soldier was seriously injured when he stepped on an anti-personnel landmine in the Sattasom area of Si Sa Ket province, less than an hour before the ceasefire signed by Thailand and Cambodia in Chanthaburi province came into effect at noon today, Thai Army spokesman Maj Gen Winthai Suvaree said.
Private Narin Ngaoprai was the 10th case of injury caused by a landmine planted by Cambodian forces, Winthai said, adding that the threat from landmines is a more urgent issue than the ceasefire and that Cambodia must address this threat more seriously.
Additional details of this latest incident are expected to be released later today.
The Army Military Force reported in another Facebook post that, at about 11am today, the Thai army shelled the Sa-ngam Resort and Casino, in Anlong Veng district of Cambodia’s Oddar Meanchey province, opposite Phu Sing district of Si Sa Ket province, because it was believed to be used by Cambodian forces to store munitions.
