Crane falls onto Rama 2 Road from elevated expressway, one injured

The driver of a pickup truck sustained a head injury this morning when a crane and a concrete slab fell, from the elevated expressway under construction, onto Rama 2 Road in Muang district of Samut Sakhon province.

The driver of the crane told the police that he was working on the elevated section installing a guard rail when the truck slid and fell onto the road below, just as a pickup truck was passing.

The crane narrowly missed the pickup truck, but a concrete slab crumbled onto the pickup injuring the driver.

An eyewitness said that had the crane landed on the pickup truck, the driver could have been killed or more seriously injured.

Construction of the Rama 2 elevated expressway has been plagued by multiple accidents. As recently as March 15th, a section of the Dao Khanong expressway bridge under construction collapsed, causing the deaths of seven people and injuring over 20.
