What I do is for country and people – Lt Gen Boonsin to Paetongtarn

Second Army Region Commander Lt Gen Boonsin Padklang said that Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra has called him to clarify remarks she made about him in her recorded conversation with former Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen.

“I informed the prime minister that I had no issue with her and that I understood her,” Boonsin said.

During the call, the general said the prime minister wanted to clear up any possible misunderstanding caused by her comments, that he was aligned with the opposition and could say and do anything to make himself look “cool”.

Paetongtarn thanked him for his understanding and for not holding a grudge. “I told her that everything I do is for the benefit of the country and the people,” he said.

During a media briefing, held after the recording went viral, Paetongtarn insisted that she has no problem with the military.

“If I had conflicts with the military, I wouldn’t have sought their recommendations or assigned full authority over the border to the army,” she said.
