Kla Tham says no preconditions for joining Bhumjaithai-led coalition

The Kla Tham Party’s chief strategist, Anudit Nakornthap, said today that the party is waiting for an invitation from the Bhumjaithai Party to join a coalition to form a new government.

He said that Kla Tham has no preconditions for joining a coalition with Bhumjaithai and that the policies of the two parties can be merged without difficulty.

Asked whether the party would insist on securing the agriculture portfolio — currently held by party leader Thammanat Prompao in a caretaker capacity — Anudit said only that during the election campaign, the party had told the public it wanted to help people in the agricultural sector.

He pointed out that pollsters had underestimated the Kla Tham Party’s election performance, noting that while the final number of House seats has not yet been confirmed, the party is expected to win between 57 and 59 seats.

He admitted that winning about 10 constituency seats in the northern region was beyond expectations.

Meanwhile, the Thai Ruam Thai Party announced today that it is ready to join a coalition led by Bhumjaithai and to vote for Anutin Charnvirakul, Bhumjaithai’s leader, as the new prime minister.

The party won five constituency seats and one party-list seat.
