Thai PM seeks US investment in digital, AI and clean energy

Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has discussed cooperation with executives of giant US companies, in a bid to build confidence in Thailand as an investment destination, during his official visit to attend the UN General Assembly in New York.

During the meetings, he highlighted the country’s potential in digital technology, artificial intelligence (AI), digital infrastructure and clean energy.

Anutin, accompanied by Commerce Minister Suphajee Suthumpun, held discussions with executives of Bank of America, Microsoft and Pacific Investment Management Company (PIMCO), as well as investors and senior representatives of leading US financial institutions.

The talks covered global economic and financial trends, as well as factors influencing investment decisions.

The Thai delegation presented the country’s potential and policies aimed at creating a more investment-friendly environment and promoting cooperation with international businesses, particularly in the digital economy, AI, digital infrastructure and clean energy.

The meetings also provided an opportunity for Thailand to communicate its economic potential to global investors and to hear directly from financial and business leaders about the outlook for investment and the global economy.

Suphajee said the discussions were important for building investor confidence and presenting Thailand’s economic direction.

US investors have also shown interest in Thailand’s policies towards the United States and China, with the Thai side stressing its approach of maintaining balanced relations with both major economic powers and seeking mutually beneficial cooperation.

The prime minister’s meetings with the US business community form part of his participation in the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA81) in New York.

The general debate is being held under the theme “Restoring Trust, Managing Transformation: A United Nations That Delivers for All.”

Suphajee has also met US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer to discuss Thailand-US trade cooperation and negotiations.

Thailand is marking the 80th anniversary of its membership of the UN this year, providing an opportunity to strengthen its role in the multilateral system and promote international cooperation for sustainable development.
