Bangkok building renovation work halted following fatal wall collapse
The Bang Na district office has issued an immediate stop-work order and banned all access to a commercial renovation site following a fatal wall collapse on Friday morning that left one construction worker dead and another injured.
Citing urgent safety concerns under the Building Control Act, authorities warned that any violators of the closure will face legal action, with civil engineering and law enforcement officials deployed to monitor the site.
The enforcement action comes after a brick wall, measuring roughly 1 meter tall and 6 meters long, toppled over at approximately 9.50am yesterday, pinning two workers beneath the rubble. Emergency services were alerted to the incident at the construction site, located near the entrance of Sukhumvit Soi 66/1 in the Bang Na Nuea sub-district.
According to authorities, the deceased worker was identified as Zin Min Thet Aung, a 32-year-old Myanmar national who was pronounced dead at the scene. His body has been taken to the Institute of Forensic Medicine at King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital.
The injured male worker, identified as Aung Moe Thu, a 28-year-old Myanmar national, was initially rushed to Ruamjairak Hospital in Phra Khanong, before being transferred to Samut Prakan Hospital for further treatment.
The building in question belongs to a private firm and was undergoing authorised modifications under a commercial building permit issued on June 10, 2026.
