Thai army limits nighttime entry to Sa Kaeo’s Nong Chan
The Thai Army’s Burapha Task Force has imposed a ban on entry to the border village of Ban Nong Chan, in Khok Sung district of Sa Kaeo province, from 6pm to 6am, effective June 28, for security reasons.
The task force insists that the ban is not a curfew, but an escalated security measure to protect people living near the Thai-Cambodian border and to prevent unauthorised people from entering the village to create content for distribution on social media.
Residents of Ban Nong Chan can only enter the village during the daytime and are required to carry their ID cards for inspection by military guards posted at checkpoints on roads leading to the village.
Informed security sources explained that the entry ban is justified on security grounds, after it was discovered that some outsiders with ill intent had visited the village with plans to create social media content that could pose a security threat.
In addition to the entry ban, an army engineering unit has been erecting additional barbed wire fencing from road markers 40 to 41 in Ban Nong Chan to seal off the natural border crossing.
