Search continues for two men missing in Phayao forest
The search is still under way in Phayao province for a 74-year-old man and his 20-year-old nephew who have been missing since August 8 after entering a forest in Chiang Muan district to look for wild mushrooms.
Chiang Muan district chief officer Pichai Khernpetch said that a search was launched the day following notification by the relatives that the two men, Nak Kamlue and nephew Ramet Chandaeng, had not returned home and could not be located.
Local administration officials, defence volunteers and park rangers from the Doi Phu Nang National Park, volunteers and emergency response unit were mobilised for the search, but had failed to locate the missing men.
The search resumed in the following days, with the search team divided into three groups to comb the heavily-forested terrain, said Pichai, adding that one search team found traces of a bonfire.
Despite the fruitless search over the past several days, he said they will continue in the hope that the two men are still safe and will be located soon.
