Thailand won a record number of medals at the 2024 Paralympics in Paris

Thai athletes won 30 medals, ranking 21st on the medal table when the games ended on Sunday, September 8th.

Thai’s secured 6 golds, 11 silvers and 13 bronzes. This is a new record for Thailand, marking their highest medal count since joining the Paralympics.

Thailand exceeded expectations by winning more gold medals than at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics, where they won 5.

Chaiwat Rattana, a wheelchair racing athlete, who was Thailand's flag bearer at the closing ceremony, won gold in the men’s 400m wheelchair racing T53 class, in a time of 14.76 seconds, setting a new Paralympic record for this category.

Thai fencing star, Saysunee Jana, delivered an outstanding performance, winning three golds in women’s fencing: foil, sabre and épée.

Each of the athletes will be rewarded by the National Sports Development Fund. Gold medal winners will receive 7.2 million baht, silver medal winners will receive 4.8 million baht and bronze medallists will receive 3 million baht. In total, Thai athletes will be rewarded with 162 million baht for their outstanding achievements at the Paris Paralympics.

Around 4,400 athletes from 184 nations took part in Paris, with China topping the medal table with a total of 220. The United Kingdom and the United States followed in 2nd and 3rd place, with 124 and 105 medals respectively.

The closing ceremony celebrated the athletes and passed the torch to the USA, the host for the Paralympics 2028.
