Cambodia's Hun Sen urges halt to Thai imports, Thai shows off air
Cambodian Senate President Hun Sen has renewed his call for a boycott of strategic goods from Thailand, including electricity, internet services, fuel, and gas.
He also ordered a suspension of all Thai dramas and content from being broadcast in Cambodia, according to Fresh News.
“Cambodia must exercise caution and avoid purchasing any strategic goods from Thailand. First, electricity — under no circumstances should we buy it. Second, internet. Third, fuel and gas. Because once they cut those off, we’re done,” he said in a live stream yesterday.
This is not the first time Hun Sen, father of Prime Minister Hun Manet, has called for a boycott of Thailand since border tensions between the two countries flared up.
He stressed that the broadcasting of all Thai dramas must be completely halted, and urged Cambodians to instead support local film productions.
Hun Sen noted that Cambodia had previously suspended all Thai dramas nationwide in 2003. Later, following repeated requests from Thailand, he allowed Thai programming to resume around 2016–2017.
