Injured dusky leaf monkey rescued after power line shock
A dusky leaf monkey (spectacled langur), which suffered a severe electric shock, has been transferred to the Ton Nga Chang Wildlife Sanctuary in Songkhla province for treatment and intensive care.
The adult male monkey was found after falling from overhead power lines, accompanied by the sound of an exploding transformer, according to the sanctuary’s Facebook page.
A preliminary examination found that the monkey had suffered serious injuries from an electric shock, leaving its hind legs paralysed, preventing it from walking normally.
Wildlife officials rescued and transported the monkey to the breeding station, where veterinarians are treating and closely monitoring the animal.
The dusky leaf monkey is a protected species in Thailand and plays an important role in dispersing seeds in tropical rainforests, helping forest regeneration and biodiversity conservation.
Officials have urged the public to support wildlife rescue efforts and the team caring for the injured monkey.
