Second rabies fatality reported in Korat
Thailand has recorded its second rabies fatality of this year, this time in the northeastern province of Nakhon Ratchasima.
Dr. Vicharn Kidhen, the provincial health official in Nakhon Ratchasima, said on Friday that the victim, a 53-year-old man living in Pho Klang sub-district, had been bitten by a dog on both legs on December 6th, but he did not visit a doctor for the administration of anti-rabies vaccine.
The victim subsequently developed a high fever, phlegm and breathing difficulties. He was taken to the Suranaree Military Hospital for treatment, but his condition deteriorated with additional symptoms such as fatigue and difficulties drinking and eating.
The patient was later rushed to the Maharaj Nakhon Ratchasima Hospital, but he died on Sunday.
