‘Am Cyanide’ sentenced to life in second murder conviction
Sararat Rangsiwuthaporn, known as “Am Cyanide” and dubbed Thailand’s worst serial killer, was sentenced to life imprisonment today by the Criminal Court for the 2023 cyanide poisoning murder of Pol Maj Nipa Saengchan in Nakhon Pathom province.
The court commuted the sentence to life imprisonment due to her useful testimony.
This is the second conviction for Sararat, after she was sentenced to death on November 20, 2024, for the premeditated murder of Siriporn Khanwong by cyanide poisoning. The incident occurred beside the Mae Klong River in Ratchaburi province.
Her poisonings began in 2015, but the case came to public attention in April 2023 following Siriporn’s death.
Siriporn and Sararat went together to the Mae Klong River to take part in a merit-making ritual, after which Siriporn fainted and died on the riverbank.
Sararat made no attempt to help her and fled, allegedly taking personal belongings worth about 150,000 baht from the deceased. An autopsy later found traces of cyanide in the body.
Siriporn’s death opened the floodgates to complaints from relatives of other victims of mysterious deaths who had connections with Sararat.
Fifteen cases of murder and attempted murder against her are pending before the court. Some victims survived the poisonings.
