Four Thai-Cambodian border checkpoints face new restrictions amid military standoff

The 2nd Army Region, which monitors the Thai-Cambodian border, has is adjusting the opening and closing times, as well as immigration measures, for four border checkpoints following Cambodia’s refusal to withdraw troops from a disputed area.

The new measures took effect yesterday, after the army granted full authority to their task forces to implement the changes.

Suranaree Task Force’s jurisdiction includes:

1. Anma Checkpoint, Nam Yuen district, Ubon Ratchathani province

· Open: Thursdays, from 9am to 12pm.

· Crossings limited to the local market areas of both countries.

· Border passes required.

· Only essential consumer goods are allowed.

· Vehicles are not permitted to cross.

· Humanitarian assistance must comply with international regulations and standards.

(Note: This checkpoint will be closed if Cambodia increases its troop presence to the extent that it affects the safety of the public and property.)

2. Saitaku Checkpoint, Ban Kruat district, Ubon Ratchathani province

· Open: Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, from 9am to 12pm.

· Crossings limited to the local market areas of both countries,

· Border passes required.

· Only essential consumer goods are allowed.

· Vehicles are not permitted to cross.

· Humanitarian assistance must comply with international regulations and standards.

(Note: This checkpoint will be closed during any military exercises along the border.)

3. Sa-Ngam Checkpoint, Phu Sing district, Si Sa Ket province

· Open: Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, from 8am to 3pm.

· Crossings are allowed with passports or border passes.

· The export of military-related items is restricted by law.

· The export of construction materials (cement etc.) is prohibited.

· Vehicles may cross in accordance with regulations.

· Humanitarian assistance must comply with international regulations and standards.

(Note: This checkpoint will be closed if clashes occur in the border area.)

4. Chong Chom Checkpoint, Kap Choeng District, Surin Province

· Open: Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, from 8am to 3pm.

· Crossings are allowed with passports or border passes.

· The export of military-related items is restricted by law.

· The export of construction materials (cement etc.) is prohibited.

· Vehicles may cross in accordance with regulations.

· Humanitarian assistance must comply with international regulations and standards.
