Italian embassy apologises for and condemns Italian student behaviour on BTS
The Embassy of Italy in Bangkok issued an official statement on Saturday, offering its profoundest apology to the Thai public and strongly condemning the inappropriate behaviour of a group of Italian students captured on a viral social media video aboard a BTS Skytrain in Bangkok.
In the statement, published in three languages, the embassy expressed sincere regret for the distress and concern caused by the incident, which involved young students visiting the country on a school study trip.
The embassy emphasised that Italian people deeply appreciate and respect the core values of Thai society, including politeness, mutual respect and peaceful coexistence, principles that are equally cherished in the Italian Republic.
It further stated that the disrespectful conduct of the small group of youths does not reflect the Italian public as a whole, nor does it represent the shared values of mutual respect, friendship and courtesy that form the foundation of long-standing ties between Thailand and Italy.
