Billionaire Bangkok Airways founder Dr Prasert dies at 93
Billionaire and healthcare pioneer Dr Prasert Prasarttong-Osoth, founder of Bangkok Dusit Medical Services (BDMS), Thailand’s largest private hospital network, as well as Bangkok Airways and PPTV, passed away yesterday at the age of 93.
He is widely credited with helping to modernise the country’s healthcare system and aviation industry.
The royal bathing rites and funeral will be held from April 22 to 28 at Debsirindrawas Ratchaworawihan Temple in Bangkok.
Dr Prasert earned his medical degree from the Faculty of Medicine of Siriraj Hospital at Mahidol University.
He developed a network of private hospitals operating to international standards, earning widespread trust both domestically and internationally and significantly advancing Thailand’s healthcare system.
He also founded Bangkok Airways and Bangkok Media & Broadcasting (PPTV HD 36), which have played key roles in the country’s economic development, transportation, service industries and media sector.
