Malaysian police tighten security along Thailand border

Malaysian police have stepped up security along the Malaysia-Thailand border following more than 50 bombings, arson attacks on local government offices and tyre-burning incidents reported in three southern Thai provinces on Saturday.

The Star reported that Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohd Khalid Ismail also urged the public to stay away from conflict zones, citing safety concerns amid escalating tensions.

“We are increasing border controls because we are concerned … first and foremost about Malaysians who frequently visit the area.

“In my view, given the current tense security situation, our people should reduce travel there and try to avoid visiting the conflict zone at this time. That is the best course of action,” he was quoted as saying.

He expressed hope that the conflict would be resolved peacefully to ensure continued security along the nation’s border.
