Wan Yubamrung, vice minister attached to the public health minister, tendered his resignation today and will leave the Pheu Thai Party next week.

Son of veteran and outspoken Pheu Thai Party member Chalerm Yubamrung said in his Facebook Live post yesterday that he had never thought about leaving the Pheu Thai Party, “as long as the party cares about me and gives me opportunities.

But, if one day, the Pheu Thai Party loves me no more and does not give me opportunities, I will have to leave,” said Wan, adding that he had not thought that the day would arrive so soon.

Nevertheless, he admitted that he is shocked by having the leave the party, adding that he was also a member of the now defunct Palang Prachachon party, a predecessor of Pheu Thai.

The former MP said that there were a lot of things he would like to talk about, but he chose to keep them to himself and would bare them all “if and when I was subjected to some actions”.

He also said that, in the past, he would voluntarily step forward to defend the party and, as a result, had been met with reprisals.

Wan claimed to still have respect for paroled former prime minister Thaksin, his ex-wife Khunying Potjaman Damapong, former prime minister Yingluck and the incumbent Pheu Thai party leader Paetongtarn and the other key members of the party.

“Our two families have been close to each other for a long time, but times have changed, so others have changed as well,” he lamented.

Meanwhile Pheu Thai Party leader Paetongtarn Shinawatra admitted today that she had warned Wan about visiting Pol Lt-Gen Kamronwit Toopkrachang, a rival to Pheu Thai’s candidate Charn Puangpetch in the Pathum Thani Provincial Administrative Organisation’s (PAO) mayoral election.

As a party leader, who has to control and look after a lot of people, she said that she had to give Wan a warning, adding that he should respect and support the party.

Regarding Wan’s plan to quit the party, Paetongtarn said she has not asked him to leave the party.
