Car bomb in Narathiwat, volunteer shot in Yala
A car bomb exploded in front of the old Khao Tan Yong police station in Muang district of Narathiwat province Tuesday night. No one was injured.
Police said that the car, rigged with an improvised explosive device, was driven to the location by suspected insurgents and parked in front of the station.
The suspects immediately left the scene.
Shortly afterward, the IED went off, causing extensive damage to the car.
The area was cordoned off by the police as an explosive ordnance disposal unit combed the scene to make sure there were no more devices.
In a separate incident in Yala province, a defence volunteer was shot and wounded as he was exercising on a road in front of his house in Muang district at about 7pm.
A single gunshot hit the volunteer’s hand. He was quickly rushed to the district’s hospital for medical treatment.
Police suspect that an insurgent hidden nearby opened fire with a handgun and quickly fled the scene.
