Police submits findings in Thai PM-Hun Sen call leak to attorney general

The Thai Cybercrime Investigation Division submitted its investigative findings today, in the case of the leaked phone call between Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra and Cambodian Senate Speaker Hun Sen to the Office of the Attorney-General (OAG).

Pol Maj-Gen Siriwat Deepor, commander of the CID, said that the submission of the findings to the OAG is part of the process for an offence which occurred outside Thai territory and it is for the OAG to consider whether or not an arrest warrant should be issued.

If the OAG agrees that the case justifies the issuance of a warrant, he said that they will ask Interpol to issue a “Red Alert” for Hun Sen’s arrest, but any legal action taken against Hun Sen would be matter of procedure, rather than a real intention to bring Hun Sen in for justice.

The recording of the phone call, leaked by the Cambodians, in which Paetongtarn is heard blame a Thai army general, believed to be the commander of the Second Army Region Lt Gen Boonsin Padklang, for the border tension between the two countries, sparked public anger and protests against the prime minister.

She was later suspended, pending a verdict from the Constitutional Court, which could see her removed from her post.
