Overflow warning for riverside areas of 6 provinces due to high tides
Riparian households in six provinces, including Bangkok, are advised to brace for high tides from tomorrow through next Sunday, which may result in overflows and flooding.
The Department of Public Disaster Prevention and Mitigation reported today that the high tides will increase the water levels in the Chao Phraya River and adjoining canals by up to 1.9 metres above mean sea level, which will exceed the critical level by 0.10-0.20 metres.
This may lead to overflows in low-lying areas near the waterways, which are unprotected by floodwalls, in Muang and Sam Khok districts of district of Pathum Thani, Muang, Pakkret and Bang Kray districts of Nonthaburi, Bang Len, Nakhon Chai Sri and Sam Phran districts of Nakhon Pathom, all districts of Samut Sakhon and Samut Songkhram, Muang, Phra Samut Chedi, Phra Pra Daeng and Bang Bo districts of Samut Prakan and Bangkok.
The department has already alerted its branch offices in the six provinces to prepare equipment to be sent to the areas in need of help.
Households in the areas have also been advised to move their valuables to higher ground and to ensure that their electrical plugs and devices are removed or turned off in flood-prone areas.
