The Network of Students and People for Thailand’s Reform announced, via its Facebook page, that a press briefing will be held tomorrow to launch a campaign to oust Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra.
The leaders of the campaign are household names from the “yellow shirt” movement, who have led massive protests against Shinawatra-led governments since the 2000s, including that of Yingluck Shinawatra, Paetongtarn’s aunt and younger sister of Thaksin Shinawatra.
They included Jermsak Pintong, Kaewsan and Kwansuang Atiphoti, Somchai Sawangkan, Charnchai Isarasenarak, Kasit Piromya, Dr Warong Dejkitwikrom, Anchalee Paireerak, Rosana Tohsitrakul and Chatuporn Prompan.
Today, hundreds of anti-government protesters gathered outside Government House, demanding Paetongtarn’s resignation over the call with Hun Sen.
The scandal has shaken her coalition, with the Bhumjaithai party, a key partner, pulling out on Wednesday, accusing her of undermining the country and insulting the dignity of the military.
Protesters waved Thai flags and held placards labelling Paetongtarn as a "traitor," while chanting "Get out!" and "Go to hell!" as dozens of riot police stood nearby.
