Japan Expands State of Emergency to 7 Other Prefectures to Curb Rising Covid-19 Cases

Japan’s Prime MinisterYoshihide Suga is set to expand the current state of emergency from only Tokyo to another seven prefectures including Osaka and Aichi to curb the spread of the coronavirus that has infected 292,212 people in the country and taken 4,094 lives. The coronavirus cases continue to climb at a rapid rate in Japan.

Still, there has yet to be a lockdown, while the government encouraged people to stay at home and restaurants to be closed at 8 p.m.

The seven other prefectures to be covered by the state of emergency are Osaka, Aichi, Tochigi, Gifu, Hyogo, Kyoto, and Fukuoka.

In the meantime, Japan will ban the entry of all nonresident foreign nationals into the country as well. The state of emergency will last until February 7, 2021.
