PM Anutin commends ‘highlight’ meeting with Vladimir Putin
Thailand’s Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul commended a meeting with Vladimir Putin, saying it was his 'highlight', speaking on the sidelines of the Russia-ASEAN Summit in Kazan on Thursday.
"To meet with Russian president Vladimir Putin is my highlight,” Anutin said.
“It was very good. We were able to resolve many pending issues and we created an understanding between the two countries at a higher level," he said.
The prime minister also noted that the countries trusted one another and looked forward to "elevating the relationship" both diplomatically and economically.
Meanwhile, Thai Ambassador to Russia Sasiwat Wongsinsawat emphasised that Moscow was an "important player in the Southeast Asia region", adding that this summit reflected the "close and cordial relations between Russia and ASEAN".
"The summit meeting between my Thailand’s prime minister Anutin Charnvirakul and President Putin went really well, although there were no documents signed, but the two sides discussed the potential co-operations in many, many fields," he added.
The Russia-ASEAN Summit is taking place on June 17-19 in Kazan. The Association of Southeast Asian Nations comprises 11 members: Brunei, Vietnam, Indonesia, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines and Timor-Leste.
