Khon Kaen woman puts house up for sale after three burglaries

A homeowner in Khon Kaen has decided to sell her house after it was burgled three times in three years, despite repeated efforts to improve security.

A photo of the house, showing a sign at the front gate reading “Selling the house to escape thieves”, has gone viral on social media.

The owner, Thanida Wanichdamrongsak, said she decided to put the property up for sale after returning to the house in Mueang district recently and finding a smashed window and signs of a break-in.

The house is located opposite several government agencies, including the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Regional Centre 6, Tourist Police and the Provincial Police Region 4 training centre.

Thanida said her family had been living in Bangkok, leaving the house unoccupied. She had kept the lights on and installed CCTV cameras to deter intruders, but these measures failed to prevent further break-ins.

The first incident occurred about three years ago, when thieves cut the electrical cables running from the transformer to the house, causing damage estimated at nearly 60,000 baht.

In mid-2025, the house was burgled again, with almost all its contents stolen. The missing items included air conditioners, fans, televisions, Buddha images, tables, chairs, dishes, bowls and spoons.

The losses were estimated at nearly 1 million baht. The intruders also cut the CCTV cables and took the cameras and recording hard drive.

After the second burglary, Thanida installed two additional CCTV cameras and raised the boundary wall to improve security. However, the latest break-in has left her feeling that she can no longer live with the constant fear of another incident.

She has therefore decided to sell the property and urged police to bring those responsible to justice.

Police from Mueang Khon Kaen Police Station and forensic officers from Police Forensic Science Centre 4 inspected the property and collected further evidence. They found latent fingerprints for forensic examination.

Pol Col Yotsawat Kaewsuebthanich, chief of Mueang Khon Kaen Police Station, said investigators had identified two to three people in the surrounding area as suspects and were working to locate them for questioning. They remain suspects as the investigation continues.

Police also plan to increase the frequency of community checkpoints, deploy mobile CCTV cameras and coordinate with the municipality to improve the surrounding environment, including street lighting and clearing overgrown vegetation around the house.

Residents have also been advised to use the police’s “Fak Ban 4.0” home-watch service, which allows patrol officers to check registered homes at scheduled intervals while occupants are away.
