Myanmar 'considering good things' for detained Suu Kyi: Thai FM
Myanmar’s President Min Aung Hlaing is weighing “good things” for detained Aung San Suu Kyi, and insisted that she is being well cared for, Thai Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow said recently.
Sihasak visited Myanmar’s capital Naypyidaw on Wednesday for talks with Min Aung Hlaing, who assumed the presidency after the recent general election.
Sihasak, who is also a deputy prime minister, said he raised the issue of Suu Kyi when he met Myanmar’s leader, reporting that
“The president said that she is being well looked after and the Myanmar government is considering good things, without giving any further details,” Sihasak said before returning to Thailand on the same day.
“This could be a good sign,” Sihasak added.
Suu Kyi, 80, has now been detained for half a decade, with even her close family saying that they are permitted only scant communication with her.
Min Aung Hlaing last week pardoned Suu Kyi’s top aide Win Myint, who served as the ceremonial president of her administration and was also taken into custody during the coup.
