Bangkok school boosts security, halts classes after social media threat

Surasakmontree School, in Bangkok’s Din Daeng district, initiated its safety protocols on Monday following a suspicious social media message that caused widespread anxiety among parents, prompting a one-day suspension of classes and an intensified security presence of 20 police officers.

Officers from Din Daeng Police Station and the Traffic Police Division have been deployed to secure the school’s main entrance.

The security reinforcement came after the school leadership requested assistance to screen individuals and vehicles attempting to access the grounds, ensuring only authorised personnel entered.

School Director Oranitcha Kotchana expressed confidence in the campus security measures, highlighting that walk-through metal detectors remain operational at entry points, where all students undergo screening and bag checks conducted by duty teachers.

While classes have been suspended for a day to ease parental concern over the online threat, a scheduled field trip for a class of tenth grade (Mathayom 4) students proceeded as planned under strict police and faculty supervision.

Regular classes are scheduled to resume tomorrow.
