Families of pub fire victims eligible for up to Bt300,000 compensation
The families of those who died in Sunday night's pub fire are eligible to receive up to Bt300,000 each in state compensation following the blaze at the Rong Beer Na Lat Phrao pub in Bangkok's Chatuchak district.
The Department of Rights and Liberties Protection's director-general, Triyarith Temahivong, said on Monday that he will chair a meeting of a subcommittee on Tuesday to finalise compensation guidelines based on the latest police report and confirmation of the identities of the victims.
He said the relatives of each deceased victim are eligible to receive up to 300,000 baht, instead of the standard 200,000 baht, if it is established that the fire was caused by negligence on the part of the pub owner or another person, constituting a criminal offence.
Those injured are each entitled to receive up to Bt80,000 in compensation, including for loss of income, plus up to Bt50,000 for physical and psychological rehabilitation.
The department has opened a temporary office at the Institute of Forensic Medicine at Police General Hospital to receive compensation applications.
A total of 27 people were killed and 71 injured in the fire, including 24 who remained in serious condition.
The pub is owned by Brewery Na Lad Phrao Co., Ltd., which was registered on November 14, 2024. The company's two major shareholders, Suvicha Salaibat and his wife, Bang-on, jointly own 100% of the company.
