The sighting is powerful evidence of the park’s rich biodiversity and thriving ecosystem, as butterfly season draws to a close, said Kaeng Krachan National Park Chief Mongkhon Chaiphakdee.
Mongkhon released photos of the black panther and said the sighting exceeded expectations, showing that the forest remains a safe haven for rare wildlife.
At the butterfly-watching area, Mongkhon explained that this time of year typically attracts visitors eager to observe the beauty of numerous butterfly species.
He added that park rangers continue active patrols to prevent encroachment and deforestation, while closely monitoring wildlife behavior.
Their mission is to ensure that all species can thrive safely in their natural habitats.
Authorities urge the public and tourists to follow these safety guidelines if they encounter wildlife:
- Keep a safe distance; stop vehicles at least 30 meters away
- Avoid loud noises
- Do not feed wild animals, as this may lead them to associate humans with food and behave unpredictably
