According to KNU sources, troops from the 7th division of the KNU based in Karen state, opposite Thailand’s Tha Song Yang district of Tak and Sob Moei district of Mae Hong Son, have been launching a multi-pronged attacks on junta forces based in Manerplaw since December 16th.
KNU troops pounded the government forces with mortars and bombs dropped from drones. The rebels also approached the camp in boats on the Moei River, which demarcates the Thai-Myanmar border.
The junta forces responded with air strikes and mortar rounds, but they failed to stop the advance of the rebels.
The KNU claim that they killed over 20 junta troops and captured four, including a battalion commander. Ammunition and weapons were also seized.
