The USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70), one of the world’s most powerful Nimitz-class aircraft carriers, has docked at Laem Chabang port on a scheduled visit.

Rear Admiral Michael S. Wosje, Commander of Carrier Strike Group ONE (CSG-1), highlighted the importance of the visit in strengthening bilateral ties.

“We are incredibly grateful to Thailand for hosting our crews,” said Wosje, adding, “Visiting Thailand provides us with an invaluable opportunity to collaborate with our Royal Thai Navy counterparts and reinforce the importance of the committed partnership with Thailand.”

Over the next few days, the Rear Admiral said that they look forward to engaging with partners here to further deepen the bonds of friendship and cooperation between the US and Thai militaries and the Thai community.

At a length of 333 meters, the USS Carl Vinson is more than just a military vessel; it is a floating city.

The ship supports a crew of over 5,000, including its embarked air wing. The carrier is equipped to carry more than 60 aircraft, including cutting-edge F-35C Lightning II fighter jets and F/A-18E/F Super Hornets.

Its capabilities range from launching aircraft at sea, using its powerful catapults, to responding to humanitarian crises globally.

Apart from showcasing the vessel’s capabilities, the visit also offers a cultural exchange opportunity for the crew.

While docked in Laem Chabang, sailors will have the chance to explore Thailand’s rich culture and connect with the local community.

Captain Matthew C. Thomas, Commanding Officer of the USS Carl Vinson, expressed pride in the ship’s mission and crew.

"USS Carl Vinson is one of the United States Navy’s 11 nuclear-powered aircraft carriers. What sets it apart from others is its Air Wing of the Future, which includes advanced aircraft like the F-35C Lightning II, F/A-18E/F Super Hornets, EA-18G Growlers, and the E-2D Advanced Hawkeye. This cutting-edge combination enhances our ability to project power and conduct operations worldwide," said Captain Thomas.

The aircraft carrier, commissioned in 1982, is named after Congressman Carl Vinson, a key figure in U.S. naval history. Known as the “father of the two-ocean Navy,” Vinson’s contributions helped shape the modern naval force.

This visit reinforces the longstanding partnership between Thailand and the United States, emphasizing their shared commitment to maintaining peace and security in the Indo-Pacific region.

The visit marks a significant moment in the U.S.-Thailand partnership, a relationship that spans over 190 years.

As Rear Admiral Wosje noted, “The strength of our relationship lies in moments like these, where we come together to learn, collaborate and build for the future.”

The USS Carl Vinson is due to remain in the Thai port until January 31st, offering a glimpse into the capabilities and camaraderie of one of the most advanced naval forces in the world.
