Pad Thai’s flavours are “an intricate combination of sweet, sour and salty, with a well-balanced contrast of textures,” according to TasteAtlas.
Two other Thai stir-fry dishes also made it into the top 50, namely Phat kaphrao in eighth place and Phat Si-io in 28th.
Phat kaphrao, which combines minced meat or seafood with holy basil and various other ingredients, such as shallots, garlic and chili peppers, is also ranked as the fourth most commonly ordered dish by visitors to Thailand.
Phat Si-io is popular for its fragrant aroma, derived from stir-fried soy sauce (both light and dark), garlic, eggs and Chinese broccoli, according to the platform.
The top four dishes on the list are Sambal Goreng (Indonesia), followed by Beef Chow Fun (China), You Bao Xia (China) and Beef Tibs (Ethiopia).
