Thailand pledges to protect the rights of children, women, and vulnerable groups as part of its seven priorities as a member of the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) for 2025-2027.

Nikorndej Balankura, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated in a weekly press briefing that Thailand intends to advance initiatives in seven areas: the rights of children, women, vulnerable groups, the right to health, the administration of justice, business and human rights, and technical cooperation.

He also mentioned that Thailand will consider emerging issues affecting human rights, such as climate change, pandemics, and digital technology. Furthermore, he reiterated that Thailand is prepared to bridge gaps and coordinate different positions toward joint solutions based on the progressive views it shares with developed countries.

The spokesperson emphasized that Thailand will prioritize issues related to the social, religious, and cultural contexts of developing countries.

Last week, the ministry held an inter-agency meeting to prepare the country's positions and actions to advance in the UNHRC.

Thailand was elected in October with 177 votes, the highest number received within the Asia-Pacific group. The country previously served as a UNHRC member from 2010 to 2013 and established a National Human Rights Commission in 2001 to protect and promote human rights within the country.
