Han So-hee, the South Korean actress who shot to fame with the 2020 Korean TV series The World of the Married, is known for her distinctive grungy, rocker chic style that contrasts beautifully with her petite features. She also served a similar look in K-pop star Jungkook’s Seven music video released earlier this year.

The Soundtrack #1 actress knows how to rock elegant ensembles while shooting for the campaigns of Dior, Balenciaga, Boucheron and Charlotte Tilbury, but she often puts an edgy spin on them—whether through a smokey make-up look or a darker colour palette.

To celebrate Han’s birthday on November 18, we look back at some of her most stylish moments and explain how to attain it for yourself.

All black

You can’t go wrong with an all-black outfit, but it can run the risk of looking flat. To prevent this, opt for textured fabrics—such as Han’s sheer crochet top from Hetherment which breaks up the lines of her long, dark hair and slim black trousers. Chunky sunglasses and boots provide definition from the garments’ slim fit.

Another way to carry off the look is to play with larger proportions. Here, Han layers an oversized jacket with a voluminous skirt and tall Balenciaga boots—and creates a contrast with a small handbag from the brand and slicked back hair.

Denim and fishnets

This Hyein Seo knitted, long-sleeved crop top and Lalafox denim miniskirt combination can be made spicy by adding fishnet tights—Han styles hers over her torso and pairs them with heavy buckled boots. With silver hardware, functional yet decorative pockets and a long cord worn as a necklace, this ensemble transforms something simple into pure punk.

Plum fuzz

Although a fuzzy plum jumper—such as this one from 1Jinn Studio—with a kitschy printed bag spells cute, Han has managed to toughen up this combo with smudged berry lips and an asymmetrical leather shoulder strap with eyelets, which is further accentuated with her loose, single braid. If you’re opting for a similar look, throw in a leather belt for a hint of grunge.

Sporty chic

Han suits the Balenciaga brand codes with her affinity for edge, so for the brand’s collaboration with Adidas, she served up looks that are adjacent to blokette core. The black football shirt and loose jogging bottoms hang effortlessly from her petite frame in a boyish way, and the knife-point heels add a hyper-feminine element.

Cosy cool

Loungewear doesn’t need to be boring, and Han demonstrates that by opting for an ever-so-slightly off-the-shoulder asymmetrical knit dress with leggings. The sheer, ribbed knit pattern provides visual texture, and the knitted halter neck bra-top underneath is a fun touch.
