Beijing braces for heavy rainfall
BEIJING, June 13 (Xinhua) -- Beijing is expected to experience significant rainfall from the daytime into the early night on Saturday, with thunderstorms forecast for the initial phase of precipitation, the municipal meteorological authority has said.
Under the combined influence of southerly air currents and a low-pressure vortex system, the Chinese capital is likely to see moderate-to-heavy rains in general, with localized torrential downpours forecast for mountainous areas, according to Zhang Linna, chief forecaster at the Beijing Meteorological Service.
"Temperatures will also drop significantly over the next three days," Zhang added.
The meteorological authority has warned of potential waterlogging in low-lying areas, which could disrupt traffic. Residents should avoid flooded roads, take precautions against the danger of lightning, and refrain from driving through water.
In mountainous regions, risks of flash floods, landslides and mudslides may rise. The public is advised to stay away from hazardous zones and riverbanks, and to avoid standing near tall structures or trees due to strong gusts. ■
