It's official: after six months of waiting, Coa Shanghai has reopened for service.

The Mexican craft-inspired watering hole by Jay Khan, which has won Asia’s 50 Best Bars for three years in a row, is back in a four-storey building on Middle Fuxing Road, with different concepts and bars on each floor. The goal is to not only bring the world-class cocktail experience but also a taste of Mexico to Shanghai.

Each floor of Coa Shanghai offers a curated cocktail list and drink selection, as well as sophisticated food options.

On the ground floor, the open layout and chill vibe of Taqueria transports guests to the vibrant street food scene of Mexico. This casual eatery combines delectable tacos with a tempting array of Margaritas and creative slushies, delivering an authentic taste of the country’s culinary heritage.

Ascending to the second floor, visitors are immersed in the traditional ambience of Cantina. Inspired by the black-and-white Mexican films of the 1930s and 1940s, the interior sets the stage for an immersive cultural experience. The menu showcases quintessential Mexican fares, such as chilaquiles, quesadillas, and pollo al carbon.

On the third floor, Salón is where the culinary magic truly unfolds. Guests can expect to discover Coa’s signature classic cocktails, as well as intriguing new creations featuring captivating ingredients. Standout offerings include the Chino, a harmonious blend of pickled onion, mezcal, tequila, chipotle, passionfruit, lemon, tomato, Chinese white vinegar and litsea pepper, as well as the Bloody Beef Maria, a favourite in Hong Kong with a bold combination of beef stock, mezcal, tequila, chipotle chilli, Sichuan pepper and a vibrant tomato cordial.

On the top-floor loft, the Mezcaleria invites guests to embark on a tasting journey through the world of fine agave spirits. Welcomed by a communal table and a comprehensive 40-page menu detailing the vast array of mezcals, guests are invited to explore the nuances of this captivating spirit, categorised by variety, appellation, microclimate, and even soil characteristics. Staffed by some of Coa’s most knowledgeable bartenders, the Mezcaleria also offers guests a tailored cocktail experience, allowing them to indulge in their preferred agave-based libations.
