Coronavirus (COVID-19 / Wuhan Pneumonia), quickly spreading globally, has already caused numerous people to be infected and died. The number of infections in Japan is increasing every day, which makes Japan another seriously impacted country. Want to learn more about what is going on in Japan? 1. Entry Management Measures and Epidemic Prevention

To prevent the spread of the epidemic, Japan has carried out several measures.

State of emergencyJapanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe extended that the nationwide state of emergency starting from now until 31 May. (4 May)

39 prefectures of the nation’s 47 prefectures are lifting the state of emergency from 14 May. Tokyo, Osaka, Hokkaido, Chiba, Kanagawa, Saitama, Hyogo and Kyoto will remain under emergency until further determination. (14 May)

Entry bans

Japan has expanded entry bans to cover foreign travellers from 87 countries and regions on 27 April, including the US, UK, Canada, Australia and all of China. For the full list of those 87 countries and regions, please click here.

Self-quarantineAnyone returning to the country from abroad, including Japanese nationals, will be required to self-quarantine for two weeks and be asked to refrain from using public transport.

JNTO hotline

Not only is JNTO offering a search engine for medical institutions, but also operates a Japan Visitors Hotline to travellers to Japan. Travellers can call for assistance in case of accidents, and emergencies, and also tourist information if needed. The hotline is available in English, Chinese, Korean and Japanese.
