Women's triathlon to be first gold at LA28
LOS ANGELES, Nov. 12 (Xinhua) -- The first gold medal of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics will be awarded in the women's triathlon, organizers announced Wednesday.
This announcement came with the release of the second version of the LA28 competition schedule, outlining when each medal event will take place across all confirmed sports and venues.
According to the schedule, the women's triathlon will be held on Day 1 in the Venice Beach Zone.
After an absence of over 30 years, China returned to the Summer Olympics in 1984, also held in Los Angeles, and since then, the first gold medals of the following Olympics have all been awarded in shooting.
The women's and men's 100m finals in athletics will be held on Day 1 and 2 respectively, while LA28 will maintain Olympic tradition with the marathon scheduled for the final weekend, taking place on Days 15 and 16.
The final LA28 Olympic champions will be crowned in swimming on Day 16, just before the closing ceremony.
Organizers said that competition times were set based on venue availability and confirmed through coordination with international sports federations.
LA28 Chief Executive Officer Reynold Hoover noted that ticket registration will begin in January 2026. "Athletes and fans from around the world now have what they need to plan an unforgettable Olympic experience," he said.
The 2028 Los Angeles Olympics will take place from July 14 to 30, followed by the Paralympic Games from August 15 to 27. ■
