76-year low! UK car production hit hard by U.S. tariffs

UK car production in May hit its lowest level in 76 years, as U.S. tariffs hammer the auto industry.

According to Britain's automotive trade body SMMT, exports of new vehicles dropped more than 55% compared with May 2024.

The tariffs, imposed by the U.S. in April, "depressed demand instantly, forcing many manufacturers to stop shipments," SMMT said.
