BEIJING, June 16 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Monday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.35 percent to 3,388.73 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.41 percent higher at 10,163.55 points.

The combined turnover of these two indices stood at 1.215 trillion yuan (about 169.2 billion U.S. dollars), down from 1.47 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.

Shares related to media and entertainment, as well as textile machinery, led the gains, while those in the motorbike and aircraft manufacturing sectors were among the biggest losers.

The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, gained 0.66 percent to close at 2,057.32 points on Monday. ■
