Teddy Riner, Marie-Jose Perec light Olympic cauldron as Paris Games opens

PARIS, July 26 (Xinhua) -- French athletes Teddy Riner and Marie-Jose Perec lit the Olympic cauldron as the 2024 Paris Games opened on Friday.

The 2024 Olympics marks the third time that Paris has hosted the Summer Games. The first was in 1900 and the last was a century ago in 1924.

For the first time, an Olympic Games opening ceremony took place out of a stadium and into the heart of the host city, Paris, with the River Seine as the main backdrop. ■
