Year of the Horse 2026: the best Chinese New Year capsule collections
As the Year of the Horse gallops in, fashion brands find themselves on familiar ground. The horse has long been central to fashion—embedded in house codes, logos and founding stories—making designs this Lunar New Year less about forced cultural gestures and more about drawing on what these houses already know.
The symbolism aligns neatly: in Chinese culture, horses represent strength, loyalty, and perseverance—a qianlima, or “thousand-mile horse”, refers to someone of exceptional talent. In the west, the animal has always signalled prestige and refinement. Hermès and Gucci are rooted in equestrian heritage, while other luxury houses draw on horse motifs to convey refined lifestyles: Polo Ralph Lauren draws inspiration from the sport in its name, Celine references its origins through the horse-drawn carriage logo (the Sulky), and Longchamp takes its name from the celebrated Parisian racecourse—a temple of thoroughbred racing and society gatherings.
From heritage reds to galloping motifs, bags to charms, here is what’s worth noting for CNY 2026.
